Odisha: license will be canceled if the pillar rider did not wear a helmet on the bike

Bhubaneswar December 6 :The State Transport Authority issued a warning on Saturday, stating that the driver’s driving license (DL) will be revoked if the second person (Pilar rider) on a two-wheeler in Odisha is not wearing a helmet. The STA said that helmets have been made mandatory for two-wheeler driving person (rider) as well as pillar rider. The STA tweeted, ‘If no one wears a helmet in both the rider and the people who sit with him, the diving license will be suspended. Please wear a helmet for your safety.’

The STA’s warning has been issued a day after the Regional Transport Officer in Cuttack suspended 42 DL and punished traffic violators.

As per the provisions, helmets have been made mandatory for the two-wheeler rider as well as the pillar rider in the state.

In the year 2019 in Odisha, there has been an increase in road accident deaths due to non-use of helmets during driving as compared to 2018. According to a report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, 1423 two-wheelers without helmets died in road accidents in the state last year, whereas in 2018, 1341 people died.
