Indian Navy gets Scorpene-class submarine INS Karanj

Newdelhi March 10 : Scorpene-class submarine INS Karanj was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, in the presence of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh and Admiral (Retired) VS Shekhawat.

INS Karanj is the third diesel-electric submarine of the Kalvari class — a class based on the Scorpène-class submarine — to be commissioned into the Indian Navy.

INS KARANJ BEST IN WORLD

INS Karanj has the best sonar and does not makes a noise at all which makes it the best in the world.

The submarine is completely made in India. Unlike other submarines which were made under the supervision of France, INS Karanj has been constructed completely under the supervision of MDL (Mazgaon Dock Limited), Naval Engineers.

Therefore, the commissioning of INS Karanj is a major milestone towards developing indigenous submarine building capability.

INS Karanj is smaller than a nuclear submarine. This makes it the deadliest and the quickest submarine till date. The smaller size makes the submarine manoeuvre easily in difficult locations and reach nearest to the enemy’s coast. It attacks the target accurately and gathers maximum intelligence.

The submarine can go deep into the ocean for a much longer period.

It works best for surface-to-surface attack, accurate missile and torpedo attack. At any point of time, the submarine can carry 18 torpedos.

The motto of the submarine is ‘Nitya Nirghosh and Nirbhik’, which means Stealthy and fearless always.

IMS Karanj is the name of a fish locally found in Maharashtra.

CREW AT INS KARANJ

The submarine has a crew of 39 people.

Speaking to India Today TV, second in command officer Amit Kumar said, “The submarine has completed over 100 days at sea. It was a superb experience. We stay like family here. At the submarine, nobody is senior or junior. We all wear clothes of the same rank. No work is small or big, everyone does all work on their own.”

Another officer commander PR Ramprakash said, “We sleep for less than six hours. We don’t even realise it is night or day inside the submarine. We organise singing competitions, drawing competitions and various other such activities. We are all ready to face enemies. The submarine has best sonar and does not makes noise at all which makes the submarine the best in the world. The submarine is completely made in India.”

Another officer Akash Kunchikorve said, “We want to tell our country people, please be relaxed and there is no need to worry at all. We are here to protect you. The message to enemies is very simple — Beware, if you look at our country, we are here to deal with you.”
