Fight cold, flu and infections with these easy Kadha recipes

NewDelhi May 12 : With the onset of the coronavirus, there has been a rise in the consumption of Ayurvedic remedies and herbal immunity boosters. People are going back to the Ayurvedic medicinal culture and consuming herbal health-boosting kadhas to ward off not just seasonal niggles like cold, cough, and flu but even COVID-19. PM Modi, in his address to the nation, advocated the use of herbal drinks to boost immune system.

The humble kadha has emerged as the favourite drink of many in the time of the pandemic. Such has been the surging popularity of the drink that it is now being sold in the form of tablets and powders at medical stores.

What is Kadha?Kadha is an Ayurvedic drink made with a number of herbs and spices that are boiled usually in water to extract their benefits. It makes us stronger from within and also help us in fighting seasonal infections.

Health Benefits of Kadha

Apart from boosting immunity, Kadha also helps to manage blood sugar, improves digestion, detox the body and prepares the body to keep away from the novel coronavirus infection. While there are numerous ways in which a kadha can be prepared, here we will tell you some simple recipes.

Tulsi Kadha
To make this kadha, we need- Basil (100 gm), Cinnamon (10 gm), Bay Leaf (10 gm), Fennel (50 gm), cardamom (15 gm) and black pepper (10 gm).

How to prepare-
Grind all these ingredients and make a paste.
Boil two cups of water in a pan. Add the paste in it. Reduce the mixture to one cup of water on a low flame in 20 minutes. Strain the mixture.

Olive, Tulsi, Ginger and Black Pepper kadha
This kadha is very useful to cure the common cold. Besides, it also improves the digestion system.
How to prepare-
Take two cups of water in a pan.
Add 7-8 leaves of Tulsi, 5 black pepper, 5 olive and one tablespoon ginger paste.
Boil the mixture on low flame for 8-10 minutes
Let it cool for some time. Strain the mixture. It can be consumed twice a day. ( morning and evening)

Cardamom and Honey Kadha
Take two cups of water in a pan and add one teaspoon of cardamom powder to it. Let the mixture boil for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture. Add one teaspoon of honey when it turns lukewarm. Kadha is ready for consumption.

Olive, Tulsi and Rock Salt Kadha
Add two cups of water in a pan add 8-10 Tulsi leaves, 5 olives. Boil it on low flame till the mixture reduces to half. Strain the mixture. Add rock salt according to taste.

Cardamom, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Olive Kadha
To make this kadha, we need one cardamom, one-piece Cinnamom, 5 black pepper, 3 cloves, half teaspoon of Carom seeds (Ajwain), and one pinch of turmeric. Take one and half glass of water in a pan. Boil it on low flame and add cardamom, Cinnamom, black pepper, cloves and ajwain in it. Wait till it reduces to half. Strain it and add turmeric. It is ready to be consumed. This Kadha should not be taken empty stomach.
