Youth promised fortune for selling kidney, loses Rs 14L

NewDelhi July 18 : South African national arrested in Bengaluru for fraud; had promised victim Rs 4cr for kidney sale but took money in name of various fees.

A 25-year-old youth was lured into making a fortune by selling his kidney and duped of Rs 14.78 lakh in a con by a foreign national. The youth got carried away by an offer of Rs 4 crore for his kidney. Police arrested a 33-year-old South African national in Bengaluru for the fraud.
Police said the youth, Arbaaz Rana of Nanpara area of Surat, allegedly searched “sell kidney for money” on Google. He was taken to a link from where he got the phone number of a certain ‘Dr Shilpaben’.The website had many photos of Bengaluru’s Manipal hospital. When Rana dialed the number, a woman called Dr Shilpaben answered the call and explained to him the process of selling a kidney. The woman took his personal details and asked him to deposit Rs 9,999 in a bank account as registration fee for selling his kidney. Thereafter, he received a certificate from nephrology examiners of ‘Nation Kidney Federation’.
The woman told him that the process of kidney donation will start only after he gets Rs 2 crore from their account while the remaining Rs 2 crore would be paid after the kidney was sold. Rana was asked to deposit another Rs 35,500 as fee for transfer of funds. Surat police chief Ajay Tomar said the individual who made the fake website was from South Africa and was arrested in Bengaluru. The accused, Titi Dago Augustine, had made transaction to the tune of Rs 1.31 crore. He opened fake accounts in the name of over 40 well-known hospitals.
