Bolangir Dec 28 : A three-year-old girl spent two nights in her dead mother’s arms in a one-room rented house near Shiva temple in Sagarpada locality of Odisha’s Balangir district.
Unaware of her mother’s death, the kid said, “My mother is sleeping since two days. I was sleeping next to her. She did not give me food and continued sleeping.”
After seeing insects coming out of her mother’s mouth, the girl went out to her neighbours, crying for help. Neighbours rushed to the deceased’s home and found her dead.
Bolangir town police arrived at the scene and initiated a probe. The child was later rescued by childline and taken to a nearby Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Centre.
As per reports, the deceased woman identified as Kuni Naik was working as a domestic help in the locality and was living with her only three-year-old daughter after being abandoned by her in-laws and parents.
“Kuni Naik died two to three days ago. The girl had been starving for three days before her neighbours brought her water and food,” said Toofan Bagh, SDPO of Sadar Police.
“We have rescued the girl; she will be kept in the child helpline centre for the time being, and we will try to contact her relatives and hand her over,” said Bijay Kumar Sahu, a member of the childline team.
