Bengaluru March 6 : <\/strong>A\u00a0shocking case came to light in Bengaluru where a 20-year-old native from Uttar Pradesh was held on grounds of cheating banks several times. The youth identified as Deepak used fraudulent techniques to freeze the bank server and cheat the banks.<\/p>\n

Deepak hailed from Hamirpur district from UP and he used a technique to freeze the bank’s server in order to ensure that the sensor message on the amount withdrawn was not sent to the bank’s server. Police recovered around 48 debit cards and 52,000 cash money from him.<\/p>\n

Deepak was nabbed by a team headed by police inspector Venkatesh NR and sub-inspector M Subramani, on receiving a complaint by an employee of a private firm that maintains the software.<\/p>\n

The incident came to light on February 24 when the employee informed police that someone had withdrawn money from an ATM of the Central Bank of India in Dr Rajkumar Road on February 23.<\/p>\n

Caught on CCTV camera<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on the image captured by the CCTV camera at the kiosk, police got hold of Deepak. He used to defraud the bank with help of his two associates.<\/p>\n

Two days before his arrest, he had rented a room in Doddakallasandra. He came to Bengaluru on February 15 and kept switching his lodges where he stayed.<\/p>\n

Two of his associates who helped him defraud the bank were on a similar mission in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. Deepak had learned to freeze the server on his own.<\/p>\n

How he carried the fraud<\/strong><\/p>\n

The UP native would use his original debit card and PIN to withdraw cash amounts ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000. He would insert his hand to block the sensor from capturing the amount withdrawn and transferring it to the server seconds before the amount comes out of the cash dispenser, thereby hanging the software.<\/p>\n

Thus, despite receiving the money, he would lodge a complaint with the bank’s customer care citing he did not get the money. Following his complaint, the bank would deposit the cash within 48 hours in his account, as per RBI guidelines.<\/p>\n

He had also borrowed debit cards from his native villagers on grounds of offering them a commission for using their cards.<\/p>\n

He would come to Bengaluru, change their pin, and use a simple number for all the cards for future reference. However, Deepak’s luck ran out of time in Bengaluru after various successful attempts.<\/p>\n
