{"id":5762,"date":"2021-05-24T04:32:26","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T04:32:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/odiannews.com\/en\/?p=5762"},"modified":"2021-05-24T04:32:26","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T04:32:26","slug":"cyclone-yaas-latest-updates-deep-depression-intensifies-into-cyclonic-storm-says-imd-bulletin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/odiannews.com\/en\/5762\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyclone Yaas latest updates: Deep depression intensifies into cyclonic storm, says IMD bulletin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bhubaneswar May 24 : Barely a week after Cyclone Tauktae left behind trails of destruction, India braces for cyclone &#8216;Yaas&#8217; which is expected to hit eastern coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal on May 26.<\/p>\n<p>The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cyclone &#8216;Yaas&#8217; would intensify into &#8216;very severe cyclonic storm&#8217; with wind speed ranging from 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph and make landfall on May 26 evening between Paradip in Odisha and Sagar islands in West Bengal.<\/p>\n<p>As per the latest bulletin released by the IMD today morning, the Deep Depression over east-central Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during the past 6 hours.<\/p>\n<p>It has intensified into cyclonic storm and lay centred at 5:30 am today near latitude 16.3\u00b0N and longitude 89.7\u00b0E, about 600 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 540 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 650 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 630 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal).<\/p>\n<p>The Indian Navy, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army are on alert to carry out rescue operations as when needed. The Navy has kept four warships and a number of aircraft, while the IAF kept 11 transport aircraft and 25 helicopters to assist in relief measures.<\/p>\n<p>Indian Coast Guard has deployed its assets in Bay of Bengal and Andaman sea in view of Cyclone Yaas. .The ICG has deployed 16 ships and three aircraft per day on an average across the deep waters of Bay of Bengal as well as off the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands.<\/p>\n<p>Eight flood relief columns and three Engineer Task Forces of the Indian Army are ready for immediate deployment on requisition by the civil administration.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 23 chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of the states and central agencies to deal with the situation<\/p>\n<p>As per the latest IMD bulletin, the Depression over east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 5 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST on May 23 near latitude 16.2\u00b0N and longitude 89.9\u00b0E, about 590 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 570 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 670 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 650 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal).<\/p>\n<p>The system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic Storm by May 24 morning and further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours. It would intensify further and reach northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts by May 26.<\/p>\n<p>Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands are likely to experience very heavy downpour on May 23 and 24.<br \/>\nThe north coastal area of Odisha would be experiencing very heavy rainfall on May 25.<br \/>\nUnder the influence of the system, the Gangetic West Bengal is expected to receive heavy rainfall from May 25-27.<\/p>\n<p>Jharkhand and Bihar are expected to get heavy rainfall on May 26 and 27 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Met department, Jharkhand may also experience
