Doctors in the hospital advised his family for ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) treatment after his condition didn&#8217;t show any signs of improvement due to widespread infections and inflammations in the lungs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A &#8216;green corridor&#8217; was created from Ashwini Hospital to Biju Patnaik International Airport in the State Capital on Tuesday to shift the patient with the help of an ambulance. He was then carried in air ambulance to Kolkata.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A four-member team of experts from Kolkata had reached Ashwini Hospital where the top IPS officer was admitted. A team of ECMO experts and another team of critical care were present at the Cuttack-based private hospital for his shifting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sources said Panigrahi was admitted to the Ashwini Covid Hospital on May 29. After initial treatment, his condition showed no signs of improvement. He was shifted to the ICU and put on a ventilator as his condition further deteriorated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As his oxygen saturation continued to dip, doctors advised ECMO treatment to save his life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, Odisha government has decided to start a full-fledged Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) unit at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to rising requirement of such advanced treatment for seriously ill Covid-19 patients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">DMET CBK Mohanty has said that the government decided to start with six units initially at SCB and gradually extend such facilities to other health care institutes in the State.<\/p>\n<p><script>function
