Kabul Sep 6 : The Taliban militants have allegedly killed a woman police officer in Firozkoh, the capital city of central Ghor province in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
According to a\u00a0, family members of the officer, identified as Banu Negar, told that her face was “heavily disfigured” due to the Talibani assault.<\/p>\n
The BBC report further said, “One report suggested Negar, who worked at the local prison, was eight months pregnant.” Reportedly, the accused were heard speaking Arabic.<\/p>\n
As per another report by The Sun, the Taliban had killed her in front her kids and husband during a door-to-door execution.<\/p>\n
Graphic images of the deceased policewoman were circulated on social media where her body was seen lying on a blood-stained carpet. A pair of “blood-stained screwdrivers” was also seen on the carpet.<\/p>\n
The family said that the local Taliban had “promised to investigate” the incident.<\/p>\n
Since taking effective control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have tried to portray itself as more tolerant and liberal than they are known. However,\u00a0several incidents of brutality and repression, that have been reported in the country since the extremist group’s resurgence in Kabul, tell a different story.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, the\u00a0Taliban broke up a women’s protest in Kabul. The demonstrators were demanding the continuation of civil rights for women that had been built up during the democratic regime after the end of the Taliban’s previous stint in power.<\/p>\n
The protestors claimed that they were targeted by the extremists with tear gas and pepper spray as they tried to make their way towards the presidential palace.<\/p>\n
“Twenty-five years ago, when the Taliban came, they prevented me from going to school. After five years of their rule, I studied for 25 years and worked hard. For the sake of our better future, we will not allow this to happen,” journalist Azita Nazimi told TOLOnews.<\/p>\n
News agency Reuters quoted another protester as saying, “They also hit women on the head with a gun magazine, and the women became bloody.”<\/p>\n
Last week, the\u00a0Taliban issued a decree to private universities, ordering them not to teach male and female students together.<\/p>\n
“The… people of Afghanistan will continue their higher education\u00a0in the light of Sharia law in safety\u00a0without being in a mixed male and female environment,” Abdul Baqi Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting minister for higher education said at a meeting with elders, known as a loya jirga.<\/p>\n
