Bengaluru Sep 18 : Administration officials of Davanagere district in Karnataka have visited the village of a 26-year-old woman, who wrote a letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai telling him that she won’t get married until roads are built in her village, to get the work started soon.<\/p>\n
On September 9, the woman identified as Bindu R D, a resident of H Rampura village in Davanagere, had sent an email to the chief minister stating her demands before she get married.<\/p>\n
The woman, who is a post graduate in Economics from Davangere University, works as a teacher. Bindu said her village has no roads or bus services and due to this, she was forced to stay at a hostel, according to a report in Indian Express.<\/p>\n
Bindu’s village with a population of 300 people had no roads or bus service for long. The nearest school and medical facility are 7-km away from the village in Mayakonda.<\/p>\n
Narrating her ordeal, Bindu said she had to walk at least 14-km every day to reach the nearest school. She said many women from the village dropped out of school because of this reason.<\/p>\n
“My elders told me that the demand for roads has been on since India became independent but still, I decided to write to the chief minister. Not just students, even if we have to go to the nearest primary health centre, we need to walk as there is no bus service or even a road. Farmers here are unable to take their agricultural products to the city on time as no carrier vehicle wants to come to the village as the road is in a bad condition,” the report quoted Bindu as saying.<\/p>\n
