NewDelhi Apr 26 : A 118-year-old French nun has been named the oldest living person in the world after the death of previous record-holder Kane Tanaka. Sister Andr\u00e9, who was born on February 11, 1904, as Lucile Randon, is the oldest person alive at 118 years and 73 days old, Guinness World Records said.Tanaka passed away aged 119 in western Japan on April 19.Sister Andr\u00e9 took her name after becoming a Catholic nun in 1944. She is the third-oldest French person and the third-oldest European person ever recorded.In her younger years, Sister Andr\u00e9 worked as a teacher, a governess and looked after children during World War II.After the war, she spent 28 years working with orphans and elderly people at a hospital in Vichy, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region.Sister Andr\u00e9 also holds the record for the oldest nun living. She also received the record for the oldest COVID-19 survivor.The nun has also lived through the Spanish Flu n 1918.Sister Andr\u00e9 has lived at her retirement home for the last 12 years. She is partially deaf and uses a wheelchair to move around.She gets up at 7 am and gets busy with little things on her desk after having breakfast.Chocolate is her “guilty pleasure”.”Her glass of wine maintains her and which is perhaps her longevity secret. I don’t know – I don’t encourage people to drink a glass of wine every day!” a staff member from Sister Andr\u00e9’s care home said.The oldest person ever was also French. Jeanne Louise Calment, who was born on 21 February 1875, lived to be 122 years 164 days old.<\/p>\n
