Odisha plans an alternative strategy for 11 districts which records low rainfall .

Bhubaneswar 31 Aug : According to report, the Odisha government has devised an escape plan to handle the situation, with about a third of the state’s geographic area facing insufficient rainfall.

Eleven of the 30 districts reported rainfall deficits, while 18 reported normal precipitation. During the current monsoon, only one district, Boudh, has seen excess rainfall of 21%.Nabarangpur (-41%), Kendrapara (-37), Kalahandi (-36), Ganjam (-35), Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khurda (-28), Puri, Cuttack (-26), Rayagada (-25), and Koraput (-22) are the districts that fall under the category of deficit rainfall as of August 30.

Regional Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar director HR Biswas said with the gradual strengthening of monsoon flow over the state, the intensity of rain is also likely to increase from the beginning of September , adding that a cyclonic circulation also lies over Northeast & adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal and numerical model indicates possibility of a fresh low pressure by September 4, which could further increase the intensity of rain in the state.
