Hong Kong experiences it’s heaviest rain in last 140 years.

Hong Kong 8 Sep: On Friday, Hong Kong was inundated by torrential rain, which caused widespread flooding throughout the compact city and submerged streets, commercial centers, and metro stations. Schools were closed, and employees were instructed to stay at home.

The Chinese Special Administrative Region recorded the greatest hourly rainfall total in the 140 years that records have been kept. Authorities issued landslide danger alerts as waterfalls of water cascaded down the steep landscape of the city.

Videos making the rounds on social media showed how the streets had turned into torrents. One clip showed metro employees wading into waist-deep water in a station to try to stop the water flow coming down from the road level.

In addition, photographs revealed a waterlogged commercial center in the Chai Wan neighborhood and the city’s cross harbour tunnel, one of the main thoroughfares connecting Hong Kong island to Kowloon.Between Thursday at 11 p.m. (local time) and Friday at midnight, the Hong Kong Observatory recorded 158.1 millimeters of rain.If the “black” rainfall warning is still in effect by noon on Friday, the Hong Kong stock market will not open and will be closed for the afternoon session.

The mayor of the city, John Lee, stated that he had ordered all agencies to make “all-out efforts” in response to the severe flooding that has affected the majority of the territory.

According to the government, floods caused some passenger and cargo clearance points at two border control points between Hong Kong and the nearby city of Shenzhen to be suspended. At least one rail line was shut down, according to Hong Kong’s MTR Corp, which runs the city’s rail system, while others were operating with delays.

  1. Superb blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely confused .. Any recommendations? Kudos!
