Surgeons of SCB Medical College successfully treated a victim of an acid assault.

Cuttack 8 Sep : A woman who had suffered 45% burn damage in an acid attack seven months earlier was successfully treated by surgeons at SCB Medical College and Hospital, marking a significant medical advancement.

According to sources, two miscreants poured acid at Mohini Bag, 30, of Loikara, Jharsuguda district, who worked as a peon at Orda government high school, as she was riding a scooter home after her shift on February 7.

Mohini was brought to the SCB Medical College and Hospital’s Department of Plastic, Reconstructive Surgery and Burns on February 10 in a severe condition with burns covering over 45% of her body.

Mohini received multidisciplinary care from a group of medical professionals that included the chiefs of the surgery, medicine, pulmonary medicine, and cardiology departments, all under the direction of Prof. Arun Kumar Choudhury, a burns surgeon. Mohini received treatment for 200 days, and on Thursday the hospital released her after her full recovery.

“The patient had to undergo surgery six times including early excision of dead tissues and skin grafting. HoD of anaesthesiology and critical medicine Prof Deba Mohanty assisted in conducting the surgical procedure on her,” said Prof Choudhury.
