The daughter’s family conducts the final rites after she decided to wed a boy of her choice.

kendrapara 8 Sep : Dipanjali Mallick, then 20 years old, chose to wed the man of her choice against the advice of her parents, but she had no idea that in a matter of hours, her own family would pronounce her dead.

According to sources, Dipanjali, the daughter of Muna Mallick from Demal village in the district’s Aul police station, disregarded her family’s expectations and wed 23-year-old Rajendra Mallick in a nearby temple on August 28.

We filed a FIR at the Aul police station when Dipanjali eloped with Rajendra Mallick, according to Muna, who was unable to accept his daughter’s choice.

They were given to the corresponding family and placed close to the community. “However, we found that Dipanjali had wed Rajendra in the village temple without our consent. She is a stain on the reputation  of our family, so we have decided to cut all links with her and hold her obsequies,” stated Muna.

He continued, “Since Dipanjali embarrassed the entire family, we decided to hold ‘pind daan’ and set up ‘Dasaha Bhoji’ (10th day feast after death) to publicly declare that our daughter was dead to us. She got married without asking for our permission, shattering all of our plans to match her up with a good boy.Dipanjali argued, “I am an adult and have the right to choose a suitable boy,” in support of her choice. However, my parents tried to force me into a marriage with a different man against my will.

Rajendra’s family, though, expressed their joy at the union. Anant Mallick, Rajendra’s father, asserted, “My kid has not sinned. Dipanjali is welcomed as our daughter-in-law with open arms.Amarbara Biswal, a human rights campaigner, said, “Both people are adults.
