Peru 9 Sep: Archaeologists have discovered a 1,000-year-old mummy in an archaeological site in a residential neighbourhood of Peru’s capital in Lima.
The specimen is an adult with long hair that has persisted for ages and an unbroken jaw.According to archaeologist Mirella Ganoza, the mummy was discovered alongside ceramics and textiles inside a ceremonial grave at the Huaca Pucllana clay pyramid. Ganoza continued, “I find it pretty intriguing that an important site, the Huaca Pucllana ceremonial center, is still intact right in the middle of Miraflores, in the city, surrounded by modern structures and projects.The mummy that was discovered may have been alive up to a thousand years ago, during the outset of the Ychsma civilisation that emerged on Peru’s central coast. Before the arrival of the Incas, there was a period of societal reorganization during which this occurred.
A research claims that Lima has more than 400 sacred locations. These are the location of several archeological ruins that aid historians in their research. The cultural and societal situations of indigenous Peruvians throughout history have been evaluated using the mummies discovered in these areas.At the Cajamarquilla archaeological site near Lima earlier this year, archaeologists discovered another mummy that was 1,000 years old. Those remains, which still had some of their skin and hair, were thought to have belonged to an adolescent.In June of this year, a 3,000-year-old mummy was reportedly found in Lima, according to a Reuters article at the time. That one most likely belonged to the Manchay civilisation, which emerged between 1,500 and 1,000 BC in the Lima valleys.
